Liver cancer is one of the most common types of cancer worldwide and represents the third most common cause of cancer-related death globally. About 75% of liver cancers arise from the liver cells – and these cancers are called hepatocellular carcinoma, or HCC. The majority of the remaining liver cancers arise from the bile ducts that traverse the liver- and these cancers are referred to biliary tract cancers, or cholangiocarcinoma.
